Summary:

In the past decade, the way that sexuality and gender "show up" in the therapy office has transformed in radical ways. Research now finds that one in five people will be in a consensually non-monogamous relationship at least once in their life. The numbers of trans-identified adolescents seeking support has increased by thousands of percents. And engaging in kink and BDSM has become mainstream. Ready or not, these issues are sitting on your couch.

Learning Objectives:

 1. Participants will be able to identify the components of gender, mental health and social influences which may or may not play a role in the development of trans identity in youth and be able to describe the components of an expanded model of affirmative care.

2. Participants can discuss the different motivations and interests which contribute to pursuit of different forms of

consensual non-monogamy, to assist their clients in navigating these frontiers.

3. Participants distinguish between healthy and unhealthy approaches to alternative sexual practices involving bondage,

discipline, sadomasochism, dominance and submission.
