Overview:

Anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are prevalent in the community and cause significant public health burden. Fortunately cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) can provide relief for many who suffer from these conditions. This full

day workshop will aim to cover the basics of the cognitive-behavioral approach to anxiety disorders and OCD. The first half of

the workshop will focus on the anxiety disorders (including phobias, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social

anxiety disorder) so that practitioners will be able to differentially diagnose these conditions and develop effective treatment plans

for their patients. The second half of the workshop will focus specifically on OCD, for which exposure and ritual prevention (ERP) is a highly effective treatment. This interactive workshop will train therapists to implement standard ERP and help them to devise individualized treatment modifications to meet the needs of patients at risk for poor therapeutic outcomes.

Objectives:

1) Participants will learn the diagnostic criteria to be able to diagnose and differentiate the anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

2) Participants will understand the basic principles of cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety and OCD

3) Participants will learn how to develop effective treatment plans for patients with OCD utilizing exposure and ritual prevention (ER)

4) Participants will learn how to overcome common obstacles in ERP, including non-compliance with exposures and therapy homework
